The 19th century spa town of St Gervais sits at the foot of Mont Blanc and combines fantastic skiing with healing natural spring waters. The full name of the town is Saint Gervais-les-Bains and the healing waters in its thermal baths have been enjoyed since Roman times - there are 10 other spa towns in France but St. Gervais is the only Alpine spa resort. The 19th century spa architecture in the town makes it a unique ski resort - it boasts classic stone buildings, sculptures which could be from the Paris métro, beautiful ironwork and bridges, and a stunning gorge location. Apart from the fabulous architecture and amazing spa treatments available in town, there's also an immense amount of skiing and other snow sports in the area. In the heart of the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area, St. Gervais has access to 445km of slopes over the neighbouring resorts of Megève, Les Contamines-Montjoie, Les Hooches, Jaillet, Combloux, La Giettaz and St. Nicolas de Véroce. There are a good mix of slopes for all ability levels in each area, and there's an extensive transport network which makes travelling to other resorts easy - there's even one of the oldest rack and pinion railways in France to take you to the slopes of Contamines-Montjoie and Les Hooches.Apart from skiing and snowboarding, in the Evasion Mont-Blanc area you can do practically any snow based sport you can think of, and quite a few non-snow sports too. On skis you can go cross country skiing, ski joering, ski touring, and even heli-skiing! On foot there are hundreds of hiking trails to follow, with snowshoeing being a popular option. Ice climbing is available, as well as paragliding and dog sledding - the range of activities on the mountains is just staggering! For activities in the resort you can choose from the many shops, bars and restaurants. Or use the ice rink, swimming pool, or cinema.Overflowing with character, history, charm, and things to do, the resort of St. Gervais is a truly unique place to ski and experience.
