The ski resort of Canillo is found in one of the best ski areas in Andorra. World renowned the ski area of Grandvalira encompasses six ski resorts all of which have their own unique characters and are suited to different types of winter holiday. Canillo is centrally placed within this network of resorts and is a great destination for families as well as mixed ability groups who need a good range of slopes. The ski area directly accessed from Canillo is El Forn. The cable car from the centre of the village takes you up 500m to the refreshingly quiet El Forn area, nervous beginners and families will enjoy the peaceful slopes immensely. But that doesn't mean expert riders will be left out in Canillo, there's a lift which connect the huge ski area of Soldeu with Canillo. This opens up over 150kilomètres of trails including a good number of reds and blacks. And for off-piste junkies there's a free snowcat which takes skiers and boarders up from the Soldeu/Canillo lift to the Pic d’Encampandana, from which they can freeride down to Pla Riba Escorxada above El Tarter. Either by chair lift or shuttle bus the entire Grandvalira ski area can be reached from Canillo, meaning you have access to around 200kilomètres of slopes, four snowparks, and loads of other great snow sports facilities which rival those of the traditionally revered Alpine ski resorts. Dog sledding, snow buggy driving, paragliding, and snowshoeing can all be enjoyed from Canillo. And there are a multitude of indoor activities available at the nearby Sport Wellness Mountain Spa in Soldeu. This 5,000m² leisure centre has swimming pools, jacuzzis, saunas, spa facilities, and many other ways to relax after days on the slopes. The après ski in Canillo is fairly relaxed, but nearby Soldeu is ideal for night owls with its bars and clubs.
