Set high in the Andorran Pyrenees the relaxed village of Encamp is the first point of access to the vast Grandvalira ski area from Spain. This ski area is the unofficial capital of snow sports in the Pyrenees and is home to a vast array of facilities and truly amazing terrain. Encamp is lift linked to the ski area of Pas de la Casa and from there skiers and snowboarders of all levels can explore the massive array of slopes in the Grandvalira domain. The ski areas of Grandvalira start at 1,710m and reach up to 2,640m across six ski resorts and have a total of 110 slopes, covering almost 200km. With this number of slopes, plus the extensive off-piste opportunities, snow sports enthusiasts are sure to find loads of terrain for them from Encamp. Perfect for beginners Grandvalira has a huge number of multi-lingual sports instructors who can show you the basics, and there are courses for more advanced riders too - whether you want to perfect your technique or find the best cliff faces, chutes, and bowls off-piste the instructors can help. From Encamp you'll also be able to enjoy the fantastic freestyle facilities of Grandvalira. World-renowned as a pioneer of freestyle in the Pyrenees, Grandvalira is the only ski area in the region to have four snowparks and every year international competitions and events are held there. Alternative sports and activities are numerous across Grandvalira, with some of the more thrilling being the snow and ice driving school, ice scuba diving, heli-skiing, and paragliding. In Encamp itself you'll find the fantastic Encamp Sports Complex which has a gym, swimming pool, and sauna where you can relax. And for alternative activities Encamp has a wealth of cultural and historic attractions, there are medieval town ruins, a Romanesque church built into the rock, and the National Automobile Museum which is one of the most important car museums in Europe. Amongst the traditional farm houses of Encamp you'll find a good range of restaurants and bars, and although this is a family-friendly relaxed village there's a lively après ski scene to be found nearby in the Andorran capital Andorra La Vella and the other ski resorts.
