In its high valley Gerlos sits on the banks of a river at 1,300m and is perfectly placed to enjoy Austria’s Zillertal region. From this traditional Tyrolean village, with its lovely authentic architecture and excellent modern snow sports facilities, you can access the biggest winter sports area in the region, the Zillertal Arena. The marked slopes of the Zillertal Arena cover a massive 166km, and are between 1,300m and 2,500m in altitude so the ski area is snow-sure from December until late April. These snow-covered slopes covered a variety of terrain and are perfect for all kinds of snow sports and ability levels - there are special areas for families, like the one at Gerlosstein, which are safe and quiet, but also available from Gerlos are huge expanses of wild off-piste terrain. The downhill skiing and snowboarding opportunities combine with the Arena Hot Zone, the first snowpark in the Zillertal Valley, to make Gerlos the ideal base for all types winter holidays, whether quiet family breaks, fun holidays for freestylers, or serious skiing adventures.From the village you also have access to the 200km of cross-country ski trails in the Zillertal Arena, 20km of which leave directly from Gerlos. These along with the winter hiking and snowshoe routes across the area allow you to experience the landscape of Zillertal at a different pace and perspective. Horse riding is also a popular activity through this snowy landscape, as is paragliding which gives you a stunning overview of the valley.For indoor activities Gerlos has tennis and squash courts, as well as, numerous beauty and wellness centres. But the main activities in the village are during the après ski hours, when the restaurants and bars of the village come alive.
