On 14 and 15 March, the well-known Austrian resort of Saalbach-Hinterglemm will be hosting the Freeride Testival, an event-packed celebration of freeriding.
If you want to give the sport a go, the Freeride Testival in Saalbach-Hinterglemm is the perfect opportunity. On 14 and 15 March, you’ll be able to make your first tracks in complete safety, with workshops, tests, lessons and off-piste excursions led by experts.
The Freeride Testival, Austria’s big freeriding event
For the whole of March, the Austrian Alps turn their focus to freeriding with the Freeride Testival. The festivities will begin on 7 and 8 March in Warth-Schröcken am Arlberg; what better opportunity to discover this magnificent Vorarlberg resort, which receives 11 meters of snow every year! The next stop is Saalbach-Hinterglemm in the state of Salzburg, where the party will continue on 14 and 15 March. The Freeride Testival will bring its tour to a close on 21 and 22 March in the Tyrolean Oberland, in Kaunertal.
Why these three resorts? Because they’re some of the best places for skiing and snowboarding off the beaten track. Saalbach-Hinterglemm gives you access to one of the largest ski areas in Austria, ideally equipped for freeriding with designated areas and fields for practising avalanche rescue. Accompanied by professionals, you can hurtle down the untouched slopes of the Kitzbühel mountain range, taking in the spectacular views of Saalbach-Hinterglemm’s scenery. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert in off-piste, the Freeride Testival has the activity or introductory session for you.
A programme with something for everyone
Why “Testival” and not “Festival”? Well, because during the Saalbach-Hinterglemm Freeride Testival, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to test out the new freeriding equipment that’ll be all the rage in the 2020/2021 season, at no cost. Skis, goggles, helmets, snowboards, backpacks... you can try it all!
The Saalbach-Hinterglemm Freeride Testival is also a chance to attend mountain safety workshops. What equipment should you bring when going off piste? How do you use an avalanche transceiver? Or an avalanche probe? Freeriding professionals will provide the answers to all of these questions. And of course, you’ll be able to hit the powdery snow in the company of experts and improve your technique. Then come the evening, the Saalbach-Hinterglemm Freeride Testival village will be one big party.
Worth knowing: compulsory registrations!
To take part in the Saalbach-Hinterglemm Freeride Testival on 14 and 15 March, you must register on site. And to take part in the free equipment tests, you need a special bracelet that you collect on site. The safety workshops and lessons have limited spaces, so think about registering for those too.
