With amazing views of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, and Monte Rosa, the ski resort of La Thuile has a spectacular setting in Italy's Aosta Valley close to the French border. So close in fact that La Thuile is linked to the French resort of La Rosière. Covering 3,000 hectares these two ski resorts combine to form the San Bernardo ski area, and have 160km of marked slopes. As these slopes range between 1,200m and 2,650m in altitude the terrain of the San Bernardo ski area is incredibly varied and there are runs for all levels of skier and snowboarder. This landscape is also perfect for all sorts of other winter sports and La Thuile has loads of great sports facilities. Excellent for snowboarders the ski area has two snowparks filled with features and a boardercross course. The three slalom stadiums are ideal for talented skiers, and the freeride zone is a powdery wonderland for off-piste skiers and boarders. If you're looking for new ways to experience the mountain you can try snowkiting, or if you're really adventurous you can take heliskiing trips up to the Miravidi and Rutor glaciers. For simple fun in the snow tobogganing is a classic favourite, and you can try snowtubing for an alternative activity.Back at the village the activities don't stop. You can head to the sports centre to use the gym or go for a swim, there are Turkish baths to unwind in, and La Thuile has some fantastic restaurants and bars where you can spend relaxing evenings. Traditionally a rural mining village, La Thuile has developed into a well-equipped ski resort while retaining its original charm and atmosphere. And at less than two hours' drive from the airports of Geneva and Turin La Thuile is the perfect winter sports destination.
