Nestling at the foot of Mont Blanc, the small unspoilt village of Les Contamines Montjoie has many hidden surprises. Firstly this small village has a much bigger ski area than you'd imagine, with 120km of slopes suited to all levels, and from Les Contamines you can access the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area where over 445km of runs can be found. Secondly it's often better value than its larger neighbours, Chamonix and Megève. And thirdly the snow is excellent, with Les Contamines Montjoie regularly receiving above average snowfall and the slopes retaining this snow well.The ski area around Les Contamines is split into two sections, the biggest is Val Montjoie, a north-east facing bowl, and on the other side of the mountain the Hauteluce-Val Joly area which is smaller and steeper. These areas are reached from lifts situated just outside of the village but there are loads of shuttle buses to take you there, and at the end of the day you can ski or board right back down to the car park.The adventure playground that is Les Contamines Montjoie doesn't stop at just downhill skiing and snowboarding, there are facilities and terrain for all kinds of winter sports. Cross-country skiing, winter walking, and snowshoeing are possible on the many trails around the area, and of course dog sled tours to discover the off-piste areas are a great experience for all the family. The more adventurous can try ski touring, paragliding, or ice climbing. And for kids the resorts organises loads of events, like nature discovery workshops, ski tuition, and sledging trips.For evening activities the resort has an outdoor ice rink, a cinema, and spas. Nights in Les Contamines Montjoie are, in general, quiet and centred around the great restaurants in the village. Although for the more energetic après skiers there are a few clubs and late night bars where you can party the night away.
