Tignes - Tignes promises a lively and sporty season

02/12/2021

The Tignes resort and its ski area, Espace Killy, have been gradually re-opening since the end of October, having been closed for a period of 18 months. The resort is determined to enjoy a season of celebration, beginning with Christmas and New Year. Parades will be organised in various locations within the resort, and Father Christmas will be in attendance, to distribute gifts. In the eveniny there will be a torchlit downhill ski, heading towards Tignes Le Lac, followed by a fireworks display that will illuminate the skies over the resort. For the New Year, the programme is fairly similar, with a torchlit downhill ski and a fireworks display, however, this time round this will not mark the end of the day, but rather the start of the party, and of a new year that is full of promise.

The emphasis on sport

Tignes is a lively and dynamic resort, that really puts an emphasis on sport. It was known to be the host venue for the 4 firsts European editions of the XGames, the most well-known extreme sports competition throughout the world. This year, Tignes is offering two events dedicated to snow sports: Ride The Snake and the Tignes Freestyle Week.

- The first will take place from 6 to 8 February 2022, and will see pro snowboarders attempt to perform the most stunning tricks. Here aesthetics will score higher than speed or performance. Once the Ride The Snake event is over, the route will be accessible to everyone.
- The Tignes Freestyle Week will beheld from 5 to 12 March, in the snow parks and hike parks created specifically. The event will challenge the greatest snowboarders to challenge themselves in various disciplines, to the delight of attending spectators. This fantastic week will be rounded off by the Slopestyle World Cup, from 10 to 12 March. Tignes is the ski paradise.

Tignes Film Week is to return in 2022

From 19 to 26 March 2022, the Tignes Film Festival will offer anyone who is interested the chance to shoot a film to be entered into the competition. Having prepared your script and put together your team in advance, you will have 8 days on site to shoot and screen your film. The film must be shot between Tignes and Val d'Isère. Once the video is complete, send it in and then attend the grand Preview, for your chance to tread the red carpet and admire your film on the big screen. Whether you're taking part in the project or not, it is always fun to support and watch projects that you feel really involved in, and that are taking place right here, in the magnificant resort of Tignes.

Tignes - The Tour de France is back in Tignes !

03/07/2019

The legend of the Alps

The last time the Tour de France stopped by Tignes, Christopher had not won any of his 4 titles. After 12 years of absence (2007), the Tour is finally back in the French ski resort and offers a superb race, including the legendary Col d’Iseran. In this edition, the athletes will conquer Europe’s highest road pass (2770 m) using the hardest route: a 13km long climb at an average gradient of 7,5%.

Party time

Although the riders will arrive late in the afternoon, a lot of activities are planned throughout the day to make the most out of your day in the iconic ski resort. Do not miss the traditional “caravane publicitaire du Tour” where hundreds of floats arrive in town and distribute millions of goodies to the crowd.  Kids absolutely love it when the water tank cools down the public: comes in handy when waiting under the sun for hours to see Thomas, Bardet and co.

The Tour will be displayed on a giant screen so you will not miss any of the action before greeting the athletes after their final 7km climb leading to Tignes. The riders are expected to cycle faster than ever as this stage is only two days away from the final race on the Champs-Elysées. Attending this stage is a must for cycling lovers and a good day trip if you’re just looking for some fun during your summer holidays.

2019 will be a special edition as the Tour de France celebrates its 100th anniversary. If you’re in the Alps in July, make sure you are in Tignes on July 26th. This year’s challenging route combined with the special atmosphere of the Tour make for a very good experience - whether you like cycling or not !
